当院は２０２６年１０月１日から「おひげせんせいのワクチンクリニック」に変わります。
2010年の開院以来、「おひげせんせいのこどもクリニック」として17年間、多くのお子さんとご家族の健康を支えるお手伝いをしてまいりました。
赤ちゃんだったお子さんが大きく成長し、成人になった子もたくさんいます。
地域の皆さまとともに歩んできた17年間は、私にとってかけがえのない時間でした。
心より感謝申し上げます。
なお、9月末までは、これまでどおり小児科診療を行います。
また、気管支喘息や便秘症などの慢性疾患で定期的に受診されている患者様につきましては、診療が途切れることのないよう、7月から9月にかけて順次ご紹介先をご案内し、紹介状を準備いたします。対象となる患者様には受診時に改めて詳しくご説明いたします。
１０月１日からは ワクチン接種時に、「乳児湿疹の軟膏を処方する」「咳や鼻水が続いていて他の病院でもらっていた薬がなくなる」など、ワクチンの診察時に子どもの薬を処方することは可能ですが、今までのようなワクチン接種なしでの受診は行えなくなります。
2026年10月1日から
「おひげせんせいのワクチンクリニック」へ
今回の変更は、小児科をやめたいからではありません。
もっと多くの命を守りたい。
その思いから決断しました。
この10年間で見えてきたこと
当院では、この10年以上の間、小児科診療と並行して海外渡航外来（留学、海外赴任、海外旅行のワクチンや健診）を行い、多くの渡航者のワクチン接種を担当してきました。
その中で強く感じたことがあります。
海外には接種が推奨されているにもかかわらず、日本ではまだ承認されていない「輸入ワクチン」が数多く存在し、それらを必要としている方が北海道にもたくさんいらっしゃるということです。
しかし、そのようなワクチンを接種できる医療機関は北海道ではまだ非常に限られています。
そのため当院では、小児科でありながら成人の方にも積極的にワクチン接種を行ってきました。
成人のワクチンは年々増えています
ここ数年は、渡航ワクチンだけではありません。
帯状疱疹ワクチン、HPVワクチン、RSウイルスワクチン、肺炎球菌ワクチンなど、成人を対象としたワクチンの相談や接種が急速に増えています。
一方で、インターネットやSNSには医学的根拠のない情報も数多く存在し、本来ワクチンで防ぐことができた感染症や、病気によって命を失う方が、今も少なくありません。
昨年は全国的にも百日咳が流行し、その中で亡くなってしまった子どもの９０％以上はワクチンを接種する前やワクチン未接種の子どもでした。 今、日本で赤ちゃんが接種しているワクチンの多くは、接種しないで感染、発症すると今の医学でも救えない病気です。
診察時にワクチンの説明をした際に、「その情報を知っていたらもっと早くに接種したのに、知らなかった」というお母さん、お父さんの声も多くあります。
正しい知識を届け、一人でも多くの命を守ることが、今の私にできる最も大切な仕事だと考えるようになりました。
しかし、小児科診療とワクチン専門診療をこれまでと同じように並行して続けることは、時間的にも体制的にも難しくなってきました。
そこで今回、ワクチン専門クリニックへ転換することを決断いたしました。
日本の渡航ワクチンは、まだ十分に普及していません
海外では、接種されるワクチン全体のうち渡航ワクチンが10％以上を占める国もあります。
一方、日本ではその割合は1％にも満たないと言われています。
つまり、海外へ渡航する多くの方が、本来必要なワクチンを受けないまま出発している現状があります。
海外旅行、留学、海外赴任、国際協力活動、医療支援――。
安心して世界へ羽ばたいていただくためにも、渡航ワクチンの普及は、日本がこれから取り組むべき重要な課題だと考えています。
私たちの使命
10月からは、
赤ちゃんから成人まで、すべての世代を対象としたワクチン専門クリニック
として歩み始めます。
私たちが目指すのは、単にワクチンを接種する場所ではありません。
正しい知識をわかりやすく伝え、安心して相談できる場所であること。
そして、一人でも多くの方がワクチンで防げる病気から守られる社会をつくることです。
これまで17年間、小児科医として守ってきた子どもたちの命。
これからは、そのご家族、そして大人たちの命も守れるクリニックを目指してまいります。
最後に
「ワクチンで救えた命があるから。」
この言葉を胸に、これからも皆さまとともに歩み続けます。

Our Clinic Will Become Dr. OHIGE Vaccine Clinic on October 1, 2026
Since opening in 2010 as Ohigesenseino Kodomo Clinic, we have had the privilege of caring for children and supporting their families for the past 17 years.
Many of the babies we first met have now grown into adults. Watching generations of children grow and serving our local community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to every patient and family who has placed their trust in us over the years.
Pediatric Care Through September 2026
Our general pediatric services will continue through September 30, 2026.
For patients who regularly visit us for ongoing conditions such as asthma, constipation, or other chronic pediatric illnesses, we will ensure that your medical care continues without interruption. From July through September, we will gradually introduce you to an appropriate physician or medical facility and prepare a referral letter. We will explain the details to each eligible family during your scheduled visit.
Changes Beginning October 1, 2026
Beginning October 1, 2026, our clinic will become Dr. OHIGE Vaccine Clinic, specializing in vaccination services for patients of all ages.
Children who visit us for vaccinations will still be able to receive treatment for minor concerns during the same visit. For example, we can prescribe ointments for infant eczema or refill medications for common conditions when appropriate.
However, routine pediatric appointments without a vaccination visit will no longer be available after September 30, 2026.
We understand that this is a significant change for many families, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with our staff at any time.
Why We Are Becoming a Vaccine Clinic
This decision was not made because we wanted to stop practicing pediatrics.
Rather, it came from a simple belief:
We want to protect more lives.
Over the past decade, while continuing to provide pediatric care, our clinic has also specialized in travel medicine. We have helped many people preparing for overseas travel, study abroad, international assignments, and volunteer work by providing travel consultations, medical examinations, and recommended vaccinations.
During these years, I came to realize an important challenge.
Many vaccines that are routinely recommended in other countries are still unavailable or not yet approved in Japan. Nevertheless, many people in Hokkaido need these vaccines, while only a small number of medical facilities are able to provide them.
For this reason, although we have always been a pediatric clinic, we have actively provided vaccinations for adults as well.
At the same time, the demand for adult vaccinations has continued to grow. More people than ever are seeking protection against diseases such as shingles, human papillomavirus (HPV), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and pneumococcal disease.
Unfortunately, inaccurate medical information about vaccines continues to spread on the internet and through social media. As a result, some people still develop—and even die from—diseases that could have been prevented through vaccination.
Last year, Japan experienced a nationwide outbreak of pertussis (whooping cough). Tragically, the vast majority of children who died had either been too young to receive the vaccine or had not yet been vaccinated.
Many of the vaccines routinely given to infants in Japan today protect against diseases that remain life-threatening even with modern medical care.
During clinic visits, parents often tell me,
“If I had known this information earlier, I would have chosen vaccination much sooner.”
Hearing these words has strengthened my conviction that providing reliable, evidence-based vaccine information is one of the most important responsibilities I have as a physician.
As the demand for both pediatric care and specialized vaccine services has continued to increase, it has become increasingly difficult to provide both at the level of care our patients deserve.
After careful consideration, I decided that becoming a dedicated vaccine clinic is the best way to serve our community in the years ahead.
Travel Vaccines and Our Mission
Travel medicine remains an underdeveloped field in Japan.
In some countries, travel vaccines account for more than 10% of all vaccinations administered. In Japan, however, they are estimated to account for less than 1%.
This means that many people leave Japan for international travel, study abroad, overseas employment, humanitarian work, or medical missions without receiving the vaccines recommended for their destinations.
As international travel continues to increase, helping people travel safely has become an increasingly important part of preventive medicine.
We believe that improving access to travel vaccines is an important challenge for Japan and an essential step toward protecting the health of travelers and the communities they visit.
Our goal is to provide patients with accurate information, internationally recommended vaccines, and individualized advice so they can travel the world with confidence.
Our Vision
Beginning in October 2026, Dr. OHIGE Vaccine Clinic will become a specialized vaccination center serving patients of all ages—from infants to older adults.
Our goal is not simply to administer vaccines.
We want to be a place where people can receive trustworthy, evidence-based information, ask questions without hesitation, and make informed decisions about their health.
We believe that everyone deserves protection from diseases that can be prevented through vaccination.
For the past 17 years, I have devoted my career to protecting the health of children as a pediatrician.
From now on, I hope to extend that mission by protecting not only children, but also their parents, grandparents, travelers, and people of every generation.
